Stealth Ninja
A hand-built stealth action platformer with eighteen levels, a throwing-weapon combat loop and a full upgrade economy — the project where the whole mobile stack was learned end to end.
The impact:
What this product is.
Stealth Ninja is a 2D stealth action platformer: move a ninja through eighteen handcrafted castle levels, avoid or eliminate patrolling guards with thrown kunai and shuriken, collect coins, gems and chests, and spend them on a branching set of upgrades and abilities. Boss encounters close out the level arcs.
What needed solving.
This was a complete commercial mobile title carried alone from first prototype to store release — design, level building, systems programming, art integration, economy balancing, localization, monetization and publishing. Everything a studio distributes across specialists had to be learned and finished by one person, and it had to hold together as a product rather than a demo.
How we approached it.
The game was built as a set of independent systems that could each be finished and tested in isolation: a movement and stealth-detection layer, a throwing-weapon combat loop with limited ammunition and pickup crates, a currency economy across coins, gems and chests, and a purchasable ability tree covering throw distance, potions, doubled shuriken and unlimited lives. Progress is stored in an encrypted local save backed by SQLite, and Google Play Games handles leaderboards and achievements. Ads and in-app purchases were integrated as a real monetization stack, not a placeholder.
What's inside?
Every level is built by hand rather than generated, with dedicated boss encounters closing out the arcs.
Guards patrol with vision triggers, so a level can be finished by avoidance as readily as by combat.
Kunai and shuriken with finite ammunition, restocked from crates placed as a level-design resource.
Coins, gems and chests fund speed, potion duration and combat upgrades alongside four permanently purchasable abilities.
Progress is written to an encrypted local store over SQLite so it cannot be trivially edited to unlock the economy.
Localized into nine languages, with Google Play Games leaderboards and achievements wired into progression.
Tools change. Standards don’t.
We choose the stack around the product — not the other way around.
